Measures that were taken by the Croatian government that has an effect on weddings in Croatia as well as venues/vendors:
- 04/04/2020 – Many research shows that Croatia is doing an amazing job-fighting COVID. According to Oxford research about measures taken by the government regarding the virus, Croatia is at the very top. We are incredibly proud because of this. You can read more about this here: https://www.total-croatia-news.com/lifestyle/42423-croatia
- 01/04/2020 – Even though this isn’t a government action, many vendors, venues, and planners are working hard on connecting so our industry can respond as a community. Currently, our contracts are updated for future clients so we have pandemics covered. Most importantly, we are researching and preparing our staff, colleagues, and clients for all future scenarios.
March updates
- 23/03/2020– Our government has taken action regarding small businesses, hopefully, these measures will help us and our colleagues to be able to continue with work once this is all over. Keep this in mind while booking vendors.
- 19/03/2020 – Every “non-essential” business is to be closed. People are advised to stay in their homes. Weddings can be held only for a small number of people on private property.
- 17/03/2020 – Croatia is getting ready for every scenario in the medical field. The staff is prepared, and the hospitals are ready to take a big number of cases, and protect the other patients as much as possible.
- 13/03/2020 – The government has declared an epidemic in Croatia. As of Monday, all schools, kindergartens, and colleges will be closed. Most people will work from home.
- 12/03/2020 – The government has a scheduled meeting today to discuss further measures. The schools in the Istria region will no longer stay open as of Friday. Other than closing the schools in one region, and a measure of quarantine for travelers from countries with a high infected rate, all the other measures from the government have been suggestive other than mandatory.
- 10/03/2020 – As of today, the Croatian government recommends that larger crowd gatherings (1.000 + people) are canceled, or that the hygienic standards are higher than usual on said events.
Coronavirus and its effect on weddings in Croatia
- No panic when it comes to destination weddings in Croatia that are scheduled from June onwards.
- The weddings scheduled for April and May are being postponed.
- Contact your planner, vendors, and venue to see options.
- Our recommendation is to postpone the wedding for a summer/autumn workday, offseason or 2021.
- If you’re keen on canceling your wedding, re-read your contracts regarding the return of funds.
- At this point, the Croatian government recommends that gatherings (including weddings) are canceled and rescheduled while we fight the virus.
- At this point, Croatia is hoping our summer season will happen at later start date. The predictions, for now, are mentioning June as a possibility.
The wedding is planned in the next two weeks while Croatia is on lockdown?
- Weddings at this time are postponed. Our advice is to look for a date in a couple of months or for next year.
- Moving your wedding to a workday would increase your chances of success to re-schedule your venue/vendors for the same day.
- Hotels, restaurants, and other venues are closed. Be patient with the response time.
If you’re at the beginning stages of planning your wedding in Croatia
- If you’re just at the beginning of the planning process for next year or 2022, there’s no reason to give up now. We don’t know how long this will last and it might blow over soon.
- Book the desired vendors first since there is a lot of postponements happening 2021 is going to be a fully booked season. You can check some average prices for vendors here: https://www.tietheknotcroatia.com/post/wedding-vendors-in-croatia-prices/
- Be patient with venues. Most of the venues are closed and their response time is slower. This gives you more time to research the perfect venue for you. While doing that, you can still start booking venues if you know where in Croatia you would like to get married.
- Hiring, a wedding planner is more than recommended. You can check our planning prices here: https://www.tietheknotcroatia.com/post/wedding-planner-in-croatia-price/
Wedding insurance and Coronavirus
As of yesterday, most wedding insurance companies aren’t selling new policies.
Even if they did, no wedding insurance covers the coronavirus, yet.
Your best bet to keep your wedding safe is like we mentioned, negotiating contracts with venues/vendors. Our suggestion is, to negotiate a clause of possibly moving the date in case of coronavirus lockdown in Croatia or a travel ban from your country. The date should be moved so it accommodates the venue/vendor’s schedule, as well as yours.
It’s a lot of stress, and work but it will be worth it in the worst-case scenario.
The USA travel ban from Europe
The USA is forbidding to travel from Europe to the States. However, at this time Croatia is one of the few countries that this ban doesn’t apply to since it’s not a part of the Schengen.
